Why The Name
"Peepers"?

This website is dedicated to an injured Hummingbird named "Peeper." Peeper was nursed back to health by Arnette Heidcamp, a bird photographer. Peeper enjoyed being held in Arnette's hand. He also enjoyed being fluffed with a tiny make-up brush. When Arnette groomed Peeper's chin, he stretched and blinked with pleasure. Read more about Peeper in Arnette Heidcamp's book, "Hummingbirds: My Winter Guests."

Where Did The Peeper Come From?

The "Peeper" symbol is an owl. It was used in ancient Mexico as a pottery stamp.

Peepers(5K}
Promise(5K}

We the Peepers,
promise never to harass or harm birds and other wildlife just to get a look...

We won't scare
a bird from its nest or keep it from its eggs or young. We won't chase or keep flushing any bird. We won't force a pooped migrating bird to fly or a chilled bird on a cold day to use precious energy flying. We won't handle birds or their eggs. We won't bother birds with blaring tapes or flashing cameras.

We protect
all birds. We won't report a sighting if the bird could be harmed; We will tell only someone who needs to know and can help, like a refuge manager or ranger.

We respect
the birds' neighborhood; We won't throw gobs of toilet paper, wander off trails, toss beer bottles, or roar by nests on dirt bikes. We won't take our dogs, cats, or pet snakes with us bird watching. We won't trespass. We won't enter closed public lands without permission. We won't trample farm land or drive across someone's lawn to get a closer look.

We won't act
like slobs or jerks - because it makes all bird watchers look bad. We won't complain that we didn't get a good look at "the target bird." We the Peepers know, a bird is not just a "target" or a word on a list. Each bird has a stress-filled life; commuting, families, predators on the job and at home...

We the Peepers,
consider that life for birds can be pretty tough and we don't want to make it any tougher...
